Washington Legislature · 2027 session
The 2027 session, bill by bill
Washington's 105-day session begins January 11, 2027. We'll follow the bills that decide who goes to prison, for how long, and what happens when they come home.
Tracking starts when bills are introduced. Status comes from the Washington State Legislature.
What we track
Four areas
Area 1
Corrections and reentry
Sentencing, second look and resentencing, earned release, prison conditions, and support for people coming home.
Area 2
Voting rights
Voting for people with convictions, in jail, or under supervision, and how the state tells them their rights.
Area 3
Jails and local justice
Pretrial detention, jail standards and expansion, diversion, and county costs.
Area 4
State workforce and higher education
Corrections staffing and the state workforce, and education in and after prison.
Bills
Where they stand
Bill tracking opens with the session. Once bills are filed, this page will list each one we follow, grouped by area, with its current status, latest action and a link to the official bill page.
For the record on last biennium's sentencing bills, see Brief No. 3, Who would benefit from the Review Act.
How we track
Our method
- Official status only. Every status and action comes from the Washington State Legislature's own bill records, and each bill links to its official page.
- Plain-language summaries. We describe what each bill does in a sentence. We don't predict outcomes.
- Dated updates. The page shows when it was last refreshed.
Legislative staff and partners: if there's a bill we should be watching, tell us.
